PML Case Study – Financial Advantage
A TRLtd specialist was deployed to an area in south east Europe where two major terrorist attacks had taken place in the preceding three months, as part of a Probable Maximum Loss (PML)study team.
TRLtd were tasked to advise the operators of a major power station on areas most vulnerable to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack and on the effectiveness of existing security and terrorism countermeasures.
The TRLtd assessment revealed that the most plausible attack scenario would involve forced entry and the deployment of a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED). Subsequently, TRLtd was able to recommend inexpensive enhancements to existing physical security measures and vehicle search procedures, which would significantly reduce the probability of a successful attack.
The PML Study report showed the potentially catastrophic effects of such a VBIED attack, which readily convinced the client to install the proposed enhancements.
A follow up visit by TRLtd staff at the request of the client confirmed that all recommendations had been fully implemented and that risks from a VBIED attack had been effectively reduced.
The benefits to the client were not only the increased protection afforded to the safety of their personnel and their assets, but also a massive reduction in their terrorist damage insurance premiums, which could be directly attributed to the objective advice given by the TRLtd Probable Maximum Loss (PML) specialists.
