Strategic technical Features
Design
RADE is modular in design and is adaptable to all types of remote delivery IEDD vehicle. It is available as a modular add-on to all types of remote Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) vehicles or as a complete system with a choice of remote vehicles.
It is a duplex VBIED disruptor that incorporates systems to access the interior of the target vehicle and to disrupt the IED.
Deployment
RADE is deployed remotely, eliminating risk to IEDD personnel. It is easy to use and rapid to deploy, typically under 5 minutes from arrival at incident to disruption.
Access element
The access element of RADE is designed to provide a method of entry into the interior of the vehicle to allow placement of the VBIED disruption component. The access element can permit entry through glass or vehicle panels without disturbing the IED.
Disruptor element
The disruptor component of RADE contains a bespoke shaped, low brisance disruption charge that is omni-directional in effect. It is fired in the free airspace of the target vehicle therefore the exact location of the IED need not be known prior to deployment.
The disruptor element also pushes apart the vehicle panels providing access to the IED components for forensic recovery.
RADE has been in service with British Army bomb disposal teams for many years and remains their primary attack weapon against VBIED's. Its success is due to its ingenious design, simplistic operation, reliability and the speed and ease with which it can be deployed.
