RCIED Threat
The threat from Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIED) has increased because of the wide availability of commercial radio-control equipment that can easily be adapted as IED triggers and also because of technical data transfer between terrorist groups.
While Al Qaida and associated networks constitute the main international RCIED threat, other terrorist groups - generally those preoccupied with pursuing their local or nationalist agendas - remain active in Europe, South America, the Indian sub-continent and especially the Middle East.
As the deployment of RCIEDs by terrorists and criminals increases, civil and military security services are required not only to meet the current threat but also to predict terrorist capability advances in order to provide effective countermeasures.
RCIED Electronic Countermeasures (ECM)
Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) equipment, both active and reactive, have been developed in response to the RCIED threat.
ECM equipment can offer effective protection to personnel in mobile and static environments. This includes all types of vehicles, temporary and permanent structures, vulnerable venues and fixed installations. Additionally RCIED ECM equipment is routinely used during police and military Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) and search operations.
Maximum effectiveness of ECM equipment is achieved when the equipment is precisely installed and correctly deployed in the appropriate location to achieve maximum coverage of the area to be protected.
Threat Resolution Ltd Capabilities
TRLtd possesses the following capabilities related to RCIED ECM:
- Threat assessment – identifying threat systems and frequencies.
- Threat analysis – identifying potential targets and vulnerable assets as well as terrorist capabilities.
- Equipment evaluation – matching ECM equipments to threats.
- Equipment procurement, maintenance and calibration.
- Tactical training:
- how to deploy and use ECM equipment.
- how to respond to ECM alarms and attacks.
- ECM Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) – Instruction for ECM operators.
- Independent RCIED ECM equipment trials and proof.
TRLtd are experienced in the development and provision of solutions to counter RCIED, the use of which has become widespread by terrorists and criminals as an effective ambush weapon.
Threat Resolution Ltd (TRLtd) assists our clients through the employment of Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) threat assessment and analysis that leads to the development of a countermeasures plan. This plan identifies strategic and tactical countermeasures and also the type and quality of RCIED ECM equipment required to mitigate the threat.
Note. Strategic and tactical knowledge transfer and the supply of RCIED ECM equipment are subject to the approval of the Government of the United Kingdom.
