Case Study - Ammunition Detection Study
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in a Balkans country awarded a competitively tendered contract to TRLtd to conduct research into the hypotheses that "ammunition may be easier to detect than weapons at border crossing points and during search operations."
TRLtd was selected because of relevant experience in the Balkans as well as embedded counterterrorism and ammunition technical expertise.
TRLtd conducted detailed research into the effectiveness of various tactical search methodologies consulting throughout with various civil and government security agencies as well as the military.
The research identified benefits, costs and also included an operational needs analysis that concluded that a combination of search techniques was most likely to be successful in the interdiction of ammunition and weapons.
The benefits to the client was an objective report that supported the hypotheses and identified key recommendations to progress the introduction of effective arms smuggling control measures.
The client intends to conduct further research and to develop tactical doctrine in the future.
