Case Study - Strategic UXO Risk Management

TRLtd was approached by a major oil and gas client conducting exploration and construction operations in Africa. Both the onshore and offshore footprints were believed to be contaminated by UXO.

TRLtd were contracted to develop a Strategic UXO Management Plan (SUMP) in order to confirm the threat, provide corporate policy on UXO risk management and develop a detailed execution methodology.

TRLtd investigation confirmed the UXO threat and also identified sporadic landmine contamination, which was confirmed in subsequent clearance operations.

The benefit to the client was an objective, unbiased assessment of the UXO and mine risks and the provision of a complete management plan. This served to reduce HSE risk as well as minimising the opportunity for schedule delays due to unexpected UXO or landmine encounters.

The client subsequently executed the SUMP without schedule delays or mine or UXO incidents.

 

Case Study - UXO Surveys

A UK government Public Private Partnership (PPP) contracted TRLtd to conduct UXO Desktop Surveys for a number of Former Use Defence Sites (FUDS) in the United Kingdom that were due disposal for non-governmental use.

The PPP was attracted to TRLtd because of our independence and capability to provide unbiased UXO surveys for both onshore and offshore scenarios.

TRLtd conducted a number of detailed UXO surveys which involved the search of MoD and other archives, as well as consulting with former employees and site visits.

The results of the various investigations was diverse. In some cases no evidence of UXO contamination was identified. In other cases we discovered tangible evidence of UXO contamination and recommended that clearance was necessary to reduce risks.

The client was provided with objective, unbiased assessments of the UXO threats and unambiguous recommendations for risk reduction measures where required.

The benefit to the client was assurance that unquantified UXO risks were not passed on in the land procurement chain thus exposing personnel to safety risks or the PPP to litigation.
