Meet the Fleet
Here at Terra Recon we own and maintain a modest fleet of frontline aircraft that meets 70% of our needs. The fleet is augmented by rentals on an ad-hoc basis when required for specific tasks. Notwithstanding this, we have a "wish list" of aircraft and support equipment which we will procure as the company develops.
Leo - Dual Controlled Inspire Pro
Leo is our tribute to Leo the Lion, the mascot for the Hollywood film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Featured in the studio's production logo, which was created by the Paramount Studios art director Lionel S. Reiss
In response to popular demand from the professional filmmaker community, DJI introduces a stylistic change in its Inspire line of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The Inspire Pro Black comes with a shell and battery in high-quality matte black. It has two controllers, one for the pilot and the second for the camera operator.
It comes equipped with DJI’s best-in-class Micro Four Thirds camera, the Zenmuse X5 accomodating a range of lenses for great cinematic capture.
Matt - Matrice 210
Matt, our Matrice 210 is currently the heaviest aircraft in our fleet at the moment and is typically deployed in weather conditions that prevent other aircraft from flying.
Matt can fly with a number of interchangeable payloads making him the ultimate platform for aerial productivity. The 210 combines a rugged design and simple reconfiguration to provide the solution for a variety of industrial applications.
Improvements to the M200 Series V2 enhance intelligent control systems and flight performance, and add flight safety and data security features.
Matt's IP43 water-resistant design means he can fly in inclement weather that would ground most other aircraft.
Boxer - Phantom 4 RTK
Boxer is named after the hardworking carthorse in George Orwell's Animal Farm who is portrayed as the farm's most dedicated and loyal labourer and for whom no task is too much to ask of him.
Our version of Boxer is a P4 RTK and like his fictional counterpart, there are very few tasks we can't ask him to perform for us. He is reliable and very accurate and his integral RTK receiver makes him very steady in gusty conditions, filling a gap between the Matrice and Mavic's (see below).
When we need greater precision from our P4 RTK, we can deploy the complementary D RTK 2 Base Station which improves the accuracy of survey, mapping, and 3D modelling tasks.
We chose the P4 RTK over the Matrice version does, which does not support Wi-Fi, and therefore cannot be used to set ground control points manually
Shadow - Phantom 4 Pro+ Obsidian
Shadow is the dark counterpart of the traditionally white DJI Phantom series. We like our Obsidian because it is much more visible in the sky and therefore Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) is much easier to maintain.
VLOS is fundamental to drone flight safety. Shadow is in all respects identical to the Phantom 4 Pro+ except for the obsidian colour. Shadow is our preferred aircraft for survey where RTK precision is not required.
The shell of the aircraft and remote controller are covered in a sleek, matte-grey obsidian - a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock. Obsidian is produced when felsic lava extruded from a volcano cools rapidly with minimal crystal growth.
Apart from increased safety, the aircraft looks really cool!
Cylon - Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual
Cylon is our FLIR-MX enabled aircraft, which is typically is deployed for tasks requiring thermal imaging.
Compact and quickly deployed, Cylon is equipped with both standard imaging and integrated Radiometric FLIR® Thermal Sensor cameras, and is ideal for Emergency Services and Search and Rescue Teams.
Another of Cylon's primary applications is that of thermography - thermal imaging which can be used to locate heat loss from buildings and roofs and also to detect the ingress of moisture into buildings.
A Cylon is a robot at war with the Twelve Colonies of humanity in the Battlestar Galactica science fiction series and is characterised by a single, red-eye. Yup, we are all Sci-Fi buff here!
Alfred - Mavic 2 Pro
Aldred is the simplest aircraft in our fleet but nevertheless is flown very routinely for basic missions, especially still photography and videography.
Alfred shoots fantastic still images in HDR and RAW, courtesy of that big 1" sensor on the Hasselblad camera which permits the best dynamic range to be gained in post-processing.
For videography, Alfred is capable of full 4K resolution and D-Log, again capturing a high dynamic range that can be optimised on post-processing and colour grading.
Alfred borrows his name from the great Hollywood producer Alfred Hitchcock, whose imaginative use of the camera is a major inspiration to us.
